Everyone knows Rolex for the Subs, Daytonas, and Explorers. However, the brand has had a consistent stable of workhorse references over the years that have flown under the radar more or less (if a Rolex can do that).

For example, the ref. 4365 was one that wore many hats when first introduced in the 1940s, including bearing the iconic "Air-King," "Speedking," and "Oyster Precision" names. These watches all carried in-house movements that were very well-made,  manually wound, and practically bombproof. This particular 4365 shares all the above characteristics while carrying a different name on the dial—"Oyster Elegante." It has a bit of an Explorer vibe thanks to the art deco-style Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock, and is classic Rolex through and through. It's also a rare opportunity to own a Rolex that has a name on the dial you don't see every day. 

SPECS

CASE & BRACELET

The early Oyster case features lug holes only on the left side of the case, along with longer lugs, which give the watch a larger wrist presence than later 34mm Oyster case models. The case remains in very impressive condition, showing thick and symmetrical lugs that have been gently polished in the past and show honest signs of use. The crown is believed to be an OEM Rolex service replacement. The case back displays some light wear and a few tooling marks, but is in great overall condition. The watch comes supplied on a two-piece handmade leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The original and beautifully preserved dial has achieved a stunning vintage aesthetic with some charming patina creeping in from the edges. The charismatic rose gold Arabic numerals add a unique yet sophisticated style to the watch and are in excellent condition. The original matching rose gold leaf-style hands are also in excellent condition and add to the overall elegance of the watch.

None. The watch is keeping time, but the service history is unknown. A movement service can be provided upon request.
